The SSI React Right specialty with Seahawks SCUBA

We appreciate your decision of pursuing the SSI react right specialty course. The combination of SSI stress-rescue and SSI react right is to prepare you to support, control, and assist any kind of scuba diving emergency.

The course has two-part. You can learn the academic sessions online and finish review questions of the first part from the comfort of your home. Your instructor teaches and demonstrates the second part of the course at an SSI dive centre.

The second part includes first aid skills in realistic, scenario-based skills practice, and final exams. This course does not require dives and can be completed in the classroom. But we provide two dives so that you can enjoy scuba diving in Andaman, Besides having a workshop regarding first aid and CPR.

Remember:- The course is not meant to replace a full-length Emergency Medical Instruction course.

First Aid comes at the final step of the SSI React Right specialty. You have to stabilise the victim(s) first, and then you need to address the non-life-threatening situations. All the emergencies are different and unique as per the circumstance and challenges involved.

We strongly refer to “the three R’s” of emergency actions to assist you to identify what type of emergency is it, and what are the proper actions to be taken to deal with it.

Remember the three R’s:- Recognise, Respond, and Restrict.

To deal with an emergency, which is associated with potential hazards, and may cause you injury. You must learn to recognise the situation, access the circumstance for potential life-threading risk.

After you recognise the type of emergency you are going to deal with. You should respond with proper actions to improve the situation and stabilise the victim(s). The SSI React Right specialty course gives you a clear vision of how to respond with appropriate actions.

At the final stage, you have to understand restrictions and unwanted legalities. You should avoid not only the inappropriate yet unnecessary actions that might harm the victim(s) but also endanger yourself. Your instructor covers all these situations during the course for your better understanding while learning scuba diving in India.

Primary Assessment

The primary assessment is crucial to identify problems that can lead to death in a matter of minutes. Your instructor prepares you to survey a scene, protect yourself, and the victims of an emergency.

You need to master several techniques to control and stabilise any emergency. Such as how to inform emergency medical services, how to assess conscious, and unconscious victims for life-threatening problems, how to conduct a secondary assessment, how to record vital signs, and how to proceed and handle victims.

Your instructor teaches and demonstrates the CPR, first aid, and AED techniques during your course. You should be able to perform first aid, and CPR smoothly during any life-threatening situation without referring to the manual. One should practice those skills repetitively until they become habitual and committed to memory.

Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Our vital organs start dying without oxygen after only a few minutes. The lack of air supply leads us to a life-threatening condition. In these critical situations, you should quickly begin taking care of a victim of a medical emergency. Such life-threatening situations include:-

1. The lungs are not getting enough air supply.

2. The lungs are unable to deliver air to the bloodstream.

3. The heart is not able to pump effectively.

4. There isn’t a sufficient blood supply.

5. Blood vessels are relaxed and intensely lower blood pressure.

One should be familiar with the signs of airway obstruction. These signs are coughing, clutching at the throat, unable to speak or breathe, the skin may become bluish, and the victim may lose consciousness.

If someone is conscious when you find him/her, check for:

1. Coughing, 2. Clutching at the throat, 3. Inability to speak or breathe, 4. Their skin may be blush in colour, 5. They may lose consciousness.

If someone is unconscious when you find him check for:

1.Whether the victim is breathing or not, 2. Whether the victim has a pulse or not.

You should remain calm and activate the EMS ( emergency medical service ) first.

The procedure to provide CPR for adult:

You should kneel by the victim’s side. Keep the heel of one hand on the centre of the victim’s chest (approximately two finger-widths above the base of the sternum). Keep the heel of your other hand on of the first hand. Interlock the fingers of both hands, and make sure that you are not placing pressure on the victim’s ribcage. You should keep your arms straight and do not put pressure on the abdomen or the bottom of the sternum. You should position yourself above the victim’s chest, and press directly down.

Please do not practice these techniques at home after reading the blog. There is a lot to learn and practice during your course. Your instructor gives you demonstrations on how to perform CPR, how to administer pure oxygen, how to provide first-aid care, and a few more things.

Your instructor gives you real situations with manikins so that you can practice and master the skills. These life-saving techniques are not only crucial to saving lives around you but also help you survive in a critical situation.

The react right specialty course can be completed in two days, but we recommend finishing the course in 4 days. Because most of the skills need to be mastered only upon repetitive practice and hard work during the workshop.

We always recommend going for stress & rescue and react right specialty course together. Because scuba diving in Havelock is full with fun and reasonable cheaper than anywhere else in the Andaman Islands.

Thanks a lot for taking out your valuable time and reading this blog. Please do let me know if you want to know more or want to do the full course on the comment. Have a great time.
